EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – Amy Smith – Admissions Coordinator – 25 Years of Service

What brought you to Hospice?

A friend and former co-worker contacted me about an opening at Hospice. I was working at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the time. After several attempts to try and “recruit” me, I decided to apply for a position in the Admissions Department.

What is your current position at Hospice?

I am the Admissions Coordinator. I have worked in the Admissions Department for the past 25 years.

What do you love most about your role?

Twenty-five years brings much gratitude in knowing I can help the families who are calling during a difficult time in need. There is a sense of fulfillment in building relationships with families and the medical community.

What do you find most challenging about your role?

Being able to respond to the needs of the community in a timely manner is a daily challenge.

What has changed over the past 25 years in Hospice Admissions?

When I first started in 1999, the referral process was predominantly completed on paper. The advancement in technology has been the most significant change to help process referrals efficiently. The Admissions Department continues to evolve with the changes in healthcare. Our mission remains the same in supporting patients and families as the community’s expert resource at the end of life.

What do you like to do when you are not working? I like to spend time up north at my camp on Tug Hill with my family, especially with my two beautiful grandsons!

What would you tell someone who is considering working for Hospice?

Believing in the mission. Hospice becomes your “second family.” The people who work here are caring unique individuals.

What do you wish others knew about Hospice?

To inquire early about Hospice services. The information you gather will be beneficial to all when your loved one is ready to pursue comfort care.

On behalf of all of us here at Hospice and the patients and families served, thank you Amy for your dedication and commitment to the Hospice mission and the community.  Happy Anniversary!
