Do I have to wait for business hours to call if I am having a problem?

No, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can call Hospice anytime. We have an answering service on-call during non-business hours. They will take your message, and a Hospice staff member will return your call.

Can I keep my current physician?

Yes, the patient’s physician is an important part of the Hospice team. Our compassionate professionals and volunteers tailor our services to meet the needs of each patient and family. All medical care is prescribed by the physician. The patient’s physician works with the Hospice physician to make sure the patient is as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Hospice staff teach the family care of the patient and helps them to anticipate changes in the course of the patient’s illness.

How will Hospice help my family?

Hospice social workers help ease the family’s anxiety and stress through sensitive counseling. They may help to resolve practical concerns by calling upon available community resources. At the family’s request, Hospice chaplains provide spiritual support and counseling for patients and families. They will provide or coordinate spiritual care according to the patient’s traditions and faith.

What other supports does Hospice offer?

At the family’s request, a Hospice volunteer can offer additional support. Our volunteers are carefully selected and trained to be a source of comfort to the family. In addition to companionship and emotional support, volunteers may provide respite care, transportation, and recreational outings for the patient and family members.

Does Hospice offer support after a loved one dies?

Our professional staff helps family members of all ages toward healing as they grieve the loss of a loved one. Bereavement services are available to Hospice family members.

What does it cost?

Under Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurance plans, HMOs and other managed care organizations, hospice care is available to patients and their families at little or no cost. No one will ever be turned away for inability to pay.

We rely upon gifts to the Hospice Foundation of Central New York to provide care for all in our community who need it. These gifts help us close the gap between reimbursement to our Agency and the actual cost of providing care. Your tax-deductible gifts help members of our community who are facing a terminal illness.
