We are very proud to share that we have two Super Goats running for Hospice of Central New York in The Mountain Goat Run on May 6th. Lisa Holmes and Gregg Earl have not only committed to the race but also to raising money for Hospice of CNY while they train.
Lisa and Gregg both have their own unique connection to Hospice of CNY. Lisa’s mom, her best friend, passed away on May 1, 2017 after losing her battle with Dementia. When Lisa’s family was informed by their mother’s doctor that her medication was no longer working, they chose to bring her home where they could be by her side until the end. Lisa will always remember how the Hospice of CNY staff were always right there when she or her family needed them.
On November 3, 2016, Gregg’s close friend, Jay, passed away after a battle with brain cancer, and Hospice of CNY was there to make him as comfortable as possible. Gregg recalls Jay always found a way to come to his running events to support him; even when he was sick he would be at the finish line. Jay was only 43 years old when he passed away, and it is difficult for Gregg to think about all that he missed. Gregg is dedicating his run to Jay, and he is also running in honor of all the wonderful people at Hospice of CNY who supported Jay and his family during the final weeks of his life.
Lisa and Gregg are training with Fleet Feet to prepare for the 10-mile hilly course. Gregg just recently started coaching with the Fleet Feet No Boundary Team. Lisa has been an avid runner since 2014 and is doing all of her training with Fleet Feet. Gregg’s first full-time committed running year was in 2017 when he completed just over 1, 100 miles.
We applaud Lisa and Gregg for stepping up to the plate! Running up and down hills for 10 miles is certainly a challenge. Training for this race will be difficult, but raising money for Hospice of CNY will provide greater motivation for their hard work. Lisa and Gregg will not only honor those they lost with their run, they will also be supporting the patients and families in our community that are facing a life-limiting illness today.
Support Lisa, Gregg and Hospice of CNY today by making a donation to their run!
