Camp Healing Hearts Receives 2019 Community Health Award from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield

Gail Longcore, Hospice Director of Psychosocial Services and Caryn Hughes, Hospice Foundation Development Director

On May 7, Hospice of Central New York’s Camp Healing Hearts was presented Excellus BlueCross BlueShield’s Spring 2019 Community Health Award along with 7 other nonprofit organizations. Each recipient was awarded up to $4,000 to help fund health and wellness programs in the company’s five-county Central New York region.

This generous grant will help fund our Camp Healing Hearts program this August at Camp Iroquois in Manlius, NY.  The Camp will allow up to 55 grieving children the opportunity for healing among their peers who are also dealing with grief.  The children also engage in typical camp activities such as hiking, arts and crafts, swimming and boating.  There are many costs associated with Camp Healing Hearts including food and supplies, staffing, and fees for use of the facilities.  The Camp is a great fit for the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield grant as our goal is to promote healing in these children and provide them with coping skills that will lead to a successful adult life.
