Birthday Celebration Benefits Hospice of CNY

Susan J. Lamanna was a founding member of our Center for Living with Loss, the home of bereavement services offered by Hospice of Central New York.  The Center provides support to hospice families and friends as well as community members after the death of a loved one, and serves children and adults in both individual and support group settings.

On a Saturday in January, Sue Lamanna held her birthday celebration here at Hospice of Central New York.  There was a DJ set up to get the party going as the smiling faces of family and friends entered the room.  As with any birthday celebration, there was great food, warm hugs and plenty of gifts to go around.  But all of the gifts came in the form of donations to the Hospice Center for Living with Loss.  As we often see in life, events tend to come full circle. Sue had recently been the recipient of the excellent bereavement services provided by the Center’s knowledgeable and dedicated counselors.  Sue decided that she didn’t need a “bunch of stuff” for her birthday, but instead wanted to support the Center she loves so much.  She asked that her family and friends take the money they would have spent on gifts, and put it toward the bereavement services of Hospice.  It is a simple and selfless act; and one that will continue giving to those experiencing loss in our community.
