Planning for the Summer 2018

by Susan Bachorik, MS, Bereavement Counselor

IT’S SPRINGTIME. Springtime often begins with planning for summer vacations and a time to “get away” from day to day routines. The school year is ending and the kids are making plans to spend time with friends. Attending a summer camp allows children to rest and renew. For those children who have been affected by a death in the past year or more, CAMP HEALING HEARTS offers them a safe environment to process their feelings, talk about their loss and interact with children who are also coping with grief.

Some comments shared by campers and their parents include: “Being at camp let me know it is okay to talk about my feelings.” “This was a positive experience for our family. It was helpful for our children to be around other kids who experienced losses.”

CAMP HEALING HEARTS is a camp for children entering the first through sixth grade in September. This 4-day camp is held at YMCA Camp Iroquois in Manlius. The dates of camp areAugust 20th – 23rd from 9:00am – 4:00pm. The registration fee is $35.00 per child or $60.00 for a family.

CAMP HEALING HEARTS includes typical fun camp activities such as art, music, drama, swimming, horseback riding, boating and a climbing wall. Children attending Camp HealingHearts learn coping skills, make new friends and create cherished camp memories. Visit our website at or call 315-634-2208 for more information.
