Dr. Suman A. Swarnkar, an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Assistant Director of Palliative Care at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse has won the 2017 Anita Award.
Each year Hospice of CNY asks the public to nominate a physician that is attentive to his/her patients, who communicates openly, honestly and sensitively, who respects patient decisions and remains actively involved with the patient in his/her final journey.
This year’s nomination came from a Hospice nurse and the team she worked with… this is a bit unusual as the ANITA Award traditionally has come from the public. However, the award committee credited the nomination itself, saying patient care teams at Hospice of CNY deal with many great local doctors and for this group of healthcare professionals to come forward with a nominee is an extraordinary testimony to the compassion and care Dr. Swarnkar delivers to her patients.
Dr. Swarnkar received the ANITA Award in a ceremony at Hospice before nearly 40 healthcare professionals from Hospice and the Upstate Medical University’s Palliative Care Services unit.
Congratulations Dr. Swarnkar!
